In the early 1980s Press Powell left his job as a teacher to follow his father Walton and his grandfather EC into the fly rod business. Press partnered with his brother John (with help from Walton) and started the Powell Rod Company in Chico, California. The well known and most popular Powell graphite rods came out of this company. Quite often these days you see these rods for sale as "Walton Powell" rods. They are not, they are Press Powell or more correctly Powell Rod Company rods. The Siganture Series, West Branch, Light Touch, and Legacy series rods were all products of the Powell Rod Company.
